Course description: DELE Preparation

The Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) is an internationally recognised certificate proving that you have achieved a certain level of competence in Spanish. They are the only officially accredited qualifications for the Spanish language, and are issued by the Ministry of Education, Spain.

These exams are held by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education. The University of Salamanca (Spain) collaborates with the IC in the development of the exams, and in their assessment. The exam levels correspond to the CEFR levels.

See our page describing the CEFR, DELE and how they relate to the levels at El Patio.

5-week course for the level B2 exam

Read information on the Instituto Cervantes website about the B2 level, including links to prior exams here.

This 5-week course is to prepare for the Nivel B2 DELE exam. It aims to:

  • familiarise students with the structure and layout of the exam's sections - reading comprehension, writing, aural comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, and speaking
  • familiarise students with the formal examination procedures. These can often bewilder a student who has very good level, as there are specific instructions with regards to completing the forms, completing the exam questions and understanding the verbal or written instructions.
  • highlight areas of weakness which individual students might need to address in terms of Spanish skills and/or knowledge
  • study of past exams

A second 5-week course will be scheduled for October to end just before the exam date. Although the examination procedures will be discussed again in this course, different exam material will be used. This could therefore be taken as a follow-up course to the first one, or as a single course in its own right.
