Course descriptions, Elementary levels
Elementary 1 (15 hrs, 10 weeks, absolute beginners)
- greetings and presentations
- asking and giving personal information: name, nationality, residence, profession
- alphabet, pronunciation, numbers
- locating things - hay, estar
- describing houses, where you live
- introduction to present tense verb conjugation: regulars and some irregulars
- masculine/feminine nouns
- masculine/feminine adjectives
- introduction to formal and informal modes of address
Textbooks:
Nuevo Ven 1 Libro del Alumno (ed. Edelsa, $68) and Workbook in English ($32). These include 3 audio CDs for listening to the dialogues in the texts. In Elementary 1 we cover Units 1-3, and these texts last for 6 courses total (up to Upper Elementary 3). Available at El Patio.
Elementary 2 (15 hrs, 10 weeks)
- locating places, asking/giving directions
- telling time, timetables, ordering in a restaurant
- expressing likes/dislikes/preferences: the verb gustar
- asking someone to do something
- describing people
- more irregular verbs in the present tense
- Textbooks as for Elementary 1, Units 4-5
Elementary 3 (15 hrs, 10 weeks)
- daily routines: reflexive verbs
- talking about the family
- describing materials/colours/clothes
- asking permission
- prices/shopping
- inviting/making/refusing a date
- Textbooks as for Elementary 1, Units 6-7
